We’ve all done this at least once in our lives: accidentally deleted an important file or document. Even worse is that if you don’t have a backup of it, you have to do it again or create it in the best possible way! Fortunately, there are many other tools and safety measures we can take today to avoid such situations. Coolmuster is one of those tools, for use with Android devices only.
Observe: I tested this with CrossOver on Xubuntu.
While a free trial is available, you will need to upgrade to the full version to actually use Coolmuster. Here’s an overview of Coolmuster’s features and the Android users it offers.
Installation and assembly
There are two ways to connect your Android device to the Coolmuster desktop app: USB (direct connection) and WiFi.
To connect via WiFi (preferred method), you must first make sure your phone and computer are on the same network. When you click “Connect via WiFi”, a pop-up window will appear with the QR code you need to scan Android application.
After a few seconds of scanning, you connect via Wi-Fi and the device appears in the Coolmuster app on your desktop.
The connection process is quick and easy, which I really appreciate.
Back up the device with Coolmuster
The Coolmuster desktop application has two tabs: My Device and Super Toolkit. If you want to back up or restore your device, Super Toolkit is the place to be.
Clicking the “Backup” button will open a pop-up window where you can choose what you want to back up and where it will be saved on your computer. Click the “Save” button when you’re done.
Similarly, clicking “Restore” will open a pop-up window where you can select the content to restore to your device. You can even delete data already on the device before restoring.
You can back up or restore your entire Android device with just a few clicks and minutes. Coolmuster makes the process virtually effortless.
Manage your media and information with Coolmuster
On the “My Device” tab, you’ll see all the apps, contacts, and media on your Android device. You can also perform different actions on each partition. For example, under “Applications”, you can install (via an apk stored on your computer), uninstall it, and export it (to your computer’s location).
You can also view and reply to text messages. This can be very handy, especially if you’re working on your desktop or laptop and don’t want to keep moving to your Android device to read or reply to text.
There are options for creating new messages, deleting messages, exporting, and importing. However, when I tried to delete the message, I received a pop-up warning that I need to set Coolmuster as the default SMS application in order for it to perform operations. Whether you want to do this or not, you can decide for yourself, but if you want, you need to confirm it on your Android device.
Viewing songs, photos, videos, and books is also nice, especially when you can add and remove them with Coolmuster. In some cases, this can be much easier than doing it on your device, especially in bulk.
One thing I didn’t expect was that when I deleted the picture, it brought me back to the top of the list and lost my place. With over 1000 images on my phone, it’s hard to find where I left off.
While everything can be done from the desktop, you can also pause and delete apps with the Android app. In addition, there are basic file management features: view, delete, and copy.
Coolmuster can be useful in all kinds of situations. Maybe your Android device crashed and you need to buy a new device. As long as you have made regular backups, you can restore the backup to your new device. This is just a scenario, but I’m sure you’ll get the picture.
Coolmuster covers all the basics of Android data and file management from your computer, plus it has a clean and easy-to-use interface.
