How to download Android apps that are not available in your country

Have you ever tried to download an app you were very excited about just to get information that the app is not available in your country? Many users have done this, and it can be very annoying and frustrating because the downloadable application could have been what you need for something very important. Here’s how you can download Android apps that aren’t available in your country.

Why can’t you download Android apps?

Android developers often limit the availability of their apps to specific geographic areas or countries. There can be several reasons for this, including local laws and regulations. For example, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) contains a long list of requirements for application and website developers. Small developers who can’t meet these requirements often choose to exclude users from certain areas until they can spend time on the problem.

In addition, due to a lack of copyright laws, local partnerships, and broadcasts, many services automatically block your access when they detect your location.

Fortunately, there is a way to work around these limitations: use a VPN service. A virtual private network acts as a bridge between your location and the service / website you want. This way, you can bypass the geoblock feature by hiding your location. When you select a country VPN from the list of supported servers, your request to access online content will appear to come from the selected country and not yours.

In addition to using a previously blocked site, using a VPN can even save you money on an option that suddenly became available. This can range from price, hotel selection or car rental to online streaming services such as HBO GO, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora or Spotify.

How to install an Android app that is not available in your country

To get started, you must first install a VPN application. There are a lot of them in the Play Store, and some of them offer free functions with restrictions. In this tutorial, we will use the Proton VPN service, a VPN service provided by ProtonMail.

1. Download and install the Proton VPN

From the Google Play Store, download and install ProtonVPN application. Once you’ve launched it, you’ll need to sign in with your account. If you already use ProtonMail for the original PGP email encryption, use this account. Otherwise, you’ll need to create a new account first.

After opening the ProtonVPN application, tap “SKIP” and enter your login information. Remember that you can use password management to both create a very strong password and store it in an army-grade encrypted safe.

2. Select a new country online

The ProtonVPN application consists of three tabs: Country, Map, and Profiles. The first two offer you a selection of servers from around the world, so that’s a priority. Profiles simply store your browsing and server selections for you to try. In the meantime, tap the Country or Map tab.

On the map, each green triangle represents the available server according to your tariff plan. As a free account, you have a limited number of countries / servers, as with any other VPN solution. However, most of the geographic restrictions can be bypassed – in the United States – from a number of free servers.

When you tap “United States”, a drop-down menu on available servers opens. You’ll also see percentages next to the server name. These show how busy they are with users. The closer it is to 100 percent, the more its resources are used, which is why you see all the percentage points in red.

Tap the first available server in the “FASTEST SERVER” category. ProtonVPN automatically calibrates this based on the connection to the service. Then press the green “Connect” button.

Now what was previously blocked is opened!

ProtonVPN still runs in the background, and you can switch to the app at any time to see how much traffic you’ve been using, how fast, for how long, and disconnect. If you are not happy with the speed, there is always an upgrade option that is very generous compared to all the other VPN services on the market.

Force stop and clear cache from Google Play

Before you download the application you want to use, you need to make a few clarifications.

Go to Settings → App → Application Manager or All Apps → Search Google Play Store → Clear Cache → Force Stop. Don’t press Clear Data – you want to leave the part alone. The next time you open Google Play, you’ll see its terms of use. If you do, press “Accept” until you see the wrench icon as shown above.

Remember to use VPN only when you want to download a free and free application. If you try to purchase the app, Google may think your account has been hacked, and you may suspend your account. You must activate ProtonVPN whenever you want to download an application that is not available in your country.

With a working VPN, there are no applications at your fingertips, and you have no empty feeling that you can’t take full advantage of the Internet. Now it’s time to troubleshoot your phone when Android apps aren’t working.
