tvOS doesn’t get as much attention as ios and macOS, but Apple has a new version which will be released in the fall with new features and you can try it now thanks to the version tvOS 15 public beta.
Should you install the public beta of tvOS 15?
As always, the beta versions of the software come with the usual warnings of bugs and other issues, but like the Apple Watch, updating to the beta of tvOS 15 is one-sided. So once you update you cannot go back even if there is a major problem. This is unlikely to happen, but it is something to consider before going through the process below.
Register your Apple TV for the public beta
On your Mac or other computer, go to https://beta.apple.com and sign up for Beta software (or sign in if you’ve already installed a beta on another device). Apple TV must have the same ID:
- click on the tab tvOS ;
- click on the link Register your Apple TV under Start.
Install the public beta on your Apple TV
On your Apple TV, activate the beta profile and then install tvOS 15 :
- head to the app Settings ;
- go in System ;
- click on Software updates in the section Maintenance ;
- click on Get beta updates in order to pass No at Yes ;
Note : Get beta updates option after signing up for beta. If not, you might be signed in to a different iCloud account than the one entered for registration. Go to the Users and Accounts tab and verify. If they’re the same, restart your Apple TV and look for the Get Beta Updates button again.
- update.
