How to print a PDF file from Chrome to Android

You may already know that you can print to a PDF directly from Chrome on your desktop. It’s a great way to save important websites in a common format, like online receipts. Or you may just want to permanently save the article you find when you use it offline.

Chrome for Android offers the same functionality, although it works a little differently. Saving web pages is not the same thing as saving content for offline playback. When you print, you don’t even need Chrome to see it. However, you need an application that supports PDF files, such as the free Adobe Reader.

Why print in PDF format?

Because there are so many different ways to share webpages and save content for offline reading, everything may seem unnecessary. However, this is useful if there is a page you want to keep. Even if the page is deleted, you still have a copy.

It also works better than a screenshot if the page you want to print is longer than your screen. Instead of multiple images to follow, you have a file that has everything in order.

Sharing Chrome

If you want to print to a PDF using Chrome on an Android device, you can’t print directly from Chrome. Instead, use Chrome’s sharing feature to start the process.

Open the page you want to print. Tap the Chrome menu in the upper right corner to expand menu options. Tap Share.

You will see different sharing options at the bottom of the screen. Drag up the settings window to see all available options.

The options that appear vary depending on the applications installed. For example, I can share links to Facebook and Pinterest because these apps are installed.

Print as a PDF file

To print in PDF format, tap Print. You will see a preview of the printed web page. Tap the “Select Printer” drop-down menu at the top.

Click Save as PDF. If you have Wi-Fi printers, you’ll probably see options as well. However, you want to save the PDF option instead of printing it locally.

Tap the green PDF icon in the upper right corner of the preview image. This will take you to the device’s default download folder. Tap the Save button at the bottom of the screen. To rename a file before saving, press the name of the existing file and enter a new one.

Find the file

Now that you’ve printed it, it’s time to check it out. Unlike downloading files directly from Chrome, you won’t see your PDF in the Downloads area of the Chrome menu.

Instead, you need to use the Android file manager, which is the default file manager. If you have another file management application, you can use it instead.

The easiest way to find the file is to open the download folder. If you have more than one, tap the folder that contains the download icon. The file must be the last in the list.

Tap a file to open it in the application of your choice. You may have several options available. Use what works best for you. Personally, I mostly use Adobe Acrobat unless you have downloaded a free ebook. In this case, I use an Amazon Kindle.

If you don’t see the options or get an error message, you may need to download a PDF reader first. After installation, repeat the above process to open the PDF file.

While you may not use it often, it’s a quick and free way to save Chrome pages as PDFs that you can save or share.
