Installing Android Studio and SDK on Windows 10

The Android SDK (Software Development Kit) is a large and powerful tool that is essential if you want to start developing Android applications. It also serves several other purposes, such as using the command line to download apps to your Android phone.

There are a lot of details and things to consider when installing the Android SDK on your computer. The following guide should help you go through the process.

Install the latest version of Java

If you don’t want to use Android Studio and just want the command line version of the Android SDK, you need to do it first download and install java.

After clicking the link, click “Download JDK”, scroll down and download “Windows x64 Installer”.

After downloading Java, install it, go to its manager (C: Program FilesJavajdk-version.number by default) and right-click the bin. ”

Then click on the Start menu, type “environment” and open “change system environment variables”.

In the new window, click “Environment Variables”. Then click “Path -> Edit” in the new window.

In the “Change Environment Variable” window, click “New” and type the path to the “bin” folder in your Java directory (C: Program FilesJavajdk-16.0.1bin by default) and then click OK.

Install the SDK command line

Android Studio is a bulky application, and while we believe its interface makes it a very easy way to manage development tools and packages, some people prefer the command line path. On Android Studio download page, select one of the “Command line tools only” options.

Download it and install it in the Android folder on your hard drive.

Navigate to the folder under “tools / bin” and right-click on “sdkmanager” and run as administrator.

This should install the base packages and leave you with a command line prompt where you can type various commands for managing SDK tools.

This will give you access adb and fastboot commands, which is great if you want to download items to Android and restore to recovery options.

Install Android Studio

If you want to take advantage of all the modern features, amenities, and UI elements of Android Studio, it’s pretty simple. On Download Android Studio page, select “Download Android Studio” and follow the instructions. However, there are a couple of things to consider when installing.

The installer offers the option to install an additional feature called Android Virtual Device that creates an emulated environment for testing various features and applications. (You’ll be asked again later if you want to install it, so it doesn’t matter if you skip it here.)

Once you’ve done that and selected the installation directory, Android Studio will begin the installation. It’s a big program, so it may take a while.

Once Android Studio is installed, open it. It will ask you if you want to import existing Android Studio settings.

Then click the Next button in the wizard and click “Custom” to install the custom components. To use Java in your Android Studio projects, go to your Java directory when prompted.

Select a theme, and then select the additional components that you want to install. We recommend that you select the Performance box and improve the Android emulation according to your processor, and you can re-select your Android virtual machine if you plan to use it.

Click Next and then Finish when you are finished.

Once Android Studio is fully installed, open it and go. Click “Create a new project” and admire the wide range of templates.
